In today’s meeting Roisin and me dicussed the development of the questions for my focus group meeting on the 13/11/12, and the use of needs analysis to confirm the viability of the proposed app. The focus group was dicussed in terms of numbers attending, how to efficiently conduct the meeting and time required.

It was mentioned that it was important to ask the students how beneficial would the provision of an app be, and where and how would they see themselves using it.

My research proposal was dicussed in that changes would need to be made to allow it to align closer with the needs of the reviewed target group. It was also emphasised that the overall design should adhere to good instructional design principles.

The following changes were made;

Aim of the research & research objectives

My premier research enquiry is, can introductory activities help improve student learning in the areas of maths, basic electronics and basic electricity.

  This premier aim is supported by secondary objectives,

·        To validate and confirm that the content of the proposed app will promote learning in these subjects, by the use of evaluation techniques, such as needs analysis, questionnaires and interviews.

·        To introduce and investigate prospects for this cohort to pursue in related Green technologies.

·        Use suitable pedagogies to improve student retention and confidence, Social Constructivism, e.g. Co-operative learning, Computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). I am not sure if this should be listed a research objective  - tit is not a question

·        Verify that the development of knowledge can be promoted by the use of eActivities. This is a question – ok

·        Explore the effectiveness of relevant learning methods, asynchronous and synchronous learning platforms.  This sounds like the second point above, perhaps the 2nd objective is included in this, and you could delete the other?
