Reflection is considered a crucial philosophical activity which enables an individual to consider an experience, analyse and appraise it, and prepare for future actions based on the insight gained by this new perception.

I judge I will gain a deeper awareness in my learning practice as I work through each module of the Masters in Applied eLearning.

I believe achieving course aims and objectives will help me develop the required knowledge and skills to become an eLearning practitioner.

Gibbs model of reflection maps out this process, by providing a structure it allows reflections to develop a cycle based on, description, thoughts and feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and future action.

Anfuso, J. (2014). "Reflexive and Reflective Learning" PowToon.

This video examines how reflective practice can be used to critically examine teaching methods. Explaining that teaching methods may reflect a teacher’s attitudes and assumptions, good reflective practice will seek to continually question attitudes and assumptions, ensuring they are not hindering good practice. Reflective practice justifies the inclusion of student feedback in resource development.

Leamon, J. (2011). "Reflective Practice and Reflection".

A light hearted introduction to reflective practice, two novice students of reflective practice discuss what it maybe about and what they would like from it, namely for a practical structure providing useful lists, prompts and structure, so they can work out what they need to learn next and not theory driven content, and deliberate that keeping a journal will help the learning and development of your practice.

Embedding resource & apps in Yola: 21st April 2015

July 5, 2015

21st April

Apps had changed since they were used in 2013, the resource had to be reconfigured in Articulate also issues with the Audio, it also had to be downloaded again and re-embedded in articulate, this lead to  republishing  the  resource, great difficulties with opening apps in resource in Yola, here is a comment, “   Below is the temporary link to my completed resource. This link is to a temporary server at Articulate (I have a trail period to this server which expires in 8 days), it checks to see if my resource publishes to the web.I have being trying for the last few days to get my resource published to the web, I subscribed to Yola, but I have been unable to upload my files to there file manager, I have had many contacts with there help desk and forums but to no avail, I attempted to upload the files to Slideshare and from there to Yola, but I could not upload them to Slideshare, I would be very grateful for some ideas on what to do”. I could try saving the published work from articulate to a cd and posting it, if I was to do this what address will I post it to?

February/ March 2015

Fully into qualitative research, analysing results from post resource findings, questionnaires and interviews, started by developing  codes through reading the material-data driven, managed to summarise data into tables, this helped in drawing conclusions, some of these conclusions had similarities and could extrapolate themes-eventually-much back & forth.

December 2014

December 2014

Once I decided to restart, I had to immerse myself again in the field, by reading all my notes, journals and data collected, in took a few weeks to get familiar again with data analysis and how to collate, classify and organise the data collected, only after this did the real work start of unearthing trends and extracting themes.

Starting Back November 2014 Alberta

July 4, 2015

By the start of the long Alberta winter in November 2014, I felt that it was the right time for me to settle back and try and finish the applied Masters, the sudden death of my sister was behind me, and I had managed within 12 months to get on me feet in Canada with a job and apartment. I had brought all my notes, papers, folders, journal articles, and a laptop with me, so hopefully I would restart where I left off.

Post Resource Results Late April 2013

July 4, 2015
Ten students completed the post resource-evaluation questionnaire and eight completed short interviews which helped to expand and illicit more information from the post resource-evaluation. Here is a selection  of student feedback; starting with slide 1 of the eResource, there was a positive consensus about using “Xtranormal”, that it was an attention grapping introduction, some student quotes were “good graphics and audio” “the robot guy was cool”got my attention”. There wa...

Preliminary Findings

July 4, 2015
Preliminary Findings March 2013
The focus group questionnaire carried out in mid-March gathered much needed information vital  to resource design by specifying student concerns, (A) 10 of the 12 respondents wanted the resource to contain a sizeable element covering basic electricity, and within this subject, 8 of the 12 respondents wanted particular attention on voltage drop and current flow in circuits. (B) the Green technology area was to be addressed only on a preliminary level, with genera...

Goal re Course Objectives 29/03/13

July 3, 2015
I need to keep this in mind, what the aim is “The project artefact shows highly developed skills in the use of appropriate eLearning Design Principles and is navigable and user friendly.

1/ Within the resource are you assessing green technology material? Have decided this is information rather than instruction. Philip Thompson (Electronics Teacher) and Brian Mc Grane (Instructional Design friend) are of the opinion 3 learning resources and quizzes are enough in an eLearning resource, I agree...

Resource Design & Development (ADDIE) 26/03/13

July 3, 2015
Resource Design & Development (ADDIE)      26/03/13

Discussed with Roisin how the design was progressing, namely the storyboard, structure and flow of the eResource, to be cognisant and not lose focus of the learning objectives. Make sure the programs used in development such as “Xtranormal” and  the articulate suite back Salmons 5-stage framework for supporting eLearning and check they are supported by Laurillard and Kolb.

I was reminded of a good foundation to keep in mind, i.e., the d...
